Emma Berentsen

Emma Berentsen a performance artist, artistic programmer and teacher, living and working between London and Amsterdam. She is currently (also) working as teacher/tutor for the master's course Arts and Education and artistic programmer for the Café Theater Festival, Utrecht.

Most of her performance work is based on autobiographical material and the transformation of this material into diverse forms of theatre, performances and installations. She is interested in working on the edge of non-fiction and fiction and the boundaries of the medium of theatre. In her work, she is always trying to build a connection between the art, artist and the audience. In her previous work, she has been working around conversation as a performative tool to talk about subjects we normally avoid talking about, such as mental health, death, mortality and sexual violence.

She previously presented work at several festivals and venues such as Venice Biennale (IT) Over ‘t IJ Festival, Amsterdam (NL), GIFT Festival, Gateshead (UK), ACT Festival, Bilbao (SP) The Nursery Festival, London (UK), ArtsAdmin, London (UK) Frascati, Amsterdam (NL), Theatre Delicatessen, London (UK), Marieta, Sao Paulo (BR), Glasshouse Project, New York (USA), Camden People’s Theatre, London (UK), Amsterdam Fringe Festival, Amsterdam (NL), MaasTD, Rotterdam (NL), Theater am Lend, Graz (A), VEEM House of Performance, Amsterdam (NL).
