Dr. Corene Hurt Thaut

Dr. Hurt-Thaut received her master’s in music therapy, and her PhD with an interdisciplinary focus of music, neuroscience and statistical design, from Colorado State University, where she worked as a research associate at The Center for Biomedical Research in Music and as special assistant professor for music therapy.

She is the co-founder and Program Director for The Academy of Neurologic Music Therapy (NMT) and is internationally recognized for her clinical expertise in the evidence based practice of NMT. She served the National Certification Board for Music Therapy (CBMT), on the Practice Analysis Committee, and as a co-author of the Self-Assessment Exam. She has also served as President and Vice President of the Midwestern Region of American Music Therapy Association. She has numerous research publications in the area of music and motor control, as well as book chapters highlighting specific applications of NMT to her credit. She works as associate professor at the ArtEZ Academy of Music in the Netherlands, in addition to being an assistant professor of music, Director of the MMus in Applied Music and Health, and a research associate at the University of Toronto.
