A violinist tells - About the forgotten antislavery pioneers. A hunchbacked prophet with dwarfism, an unassuming elementary school teacher, and a straight-laced theologian. At first, no one could have guessed that this huddle of oddballs would spark one of the greatest revolutions in human history. But so it did. At least, these three eighteenth-century men were the greatest pioneers. They lit the flame of “abolitionism,” the belief that the entire institution of slavery should be abolished.

One Voice is the graduation performance of Mezzo soprano Carmen de Haan from the ArtEZ Academy of Music in Zwolle. The performance is directed by Stijn Dijkema and the basis of this performance is an Artistic Research on the coloring of vocal ensembles. This Artistic Research also had a social side, what makes that today's society does not always color beautifully together? Can singing together mean something in this?

'Retrospective' That is the title of Mare Oldenhuis' final. Mare Oldenhuis is a 22-year-old vocalist and musician. Vulnerability and a strong perceptive ability are two of Mare's defining characteristics as an artist. She has spent the past few years at ArtEZ developing herself as a versatile vocalist and maker. Thus, she has a love for jazz music, classical choral music and writes her own work that can be described as pop with soul and jazz influences enriched with pure and nuanced lyrics; both English and Dutch. In her final she will perform a versatile repertoire in a variety of line-ups. From a vocal ensemble to her own work amplified by strings to humorous party music with horn section about a vacation gone wrong; it promises to be an evening full of surprises with one big overarching theme: vulnerability.
