Symposium on Contingency, Culture & Oncology

ArtEZ is currently collaborating with Amsterdam UMC on a project about meaning in palliative cancer care, which focuses on the Art-Based Learning method developed by Jeroen Lutters. Within Amsterdam UMC, this project is part of the Contingency, Culture and Oncology (CCO) research line of the Medical Oncology department.

On Friday 31 October, this research line is organising a symposium focusing on topics such as transdisciplinarity, the complexity of co-creation, and the role of art and culture in meaning-making processes. The symposium is open to everyone, and (artistic) researchers are welcome to present their own research in this field.

Lecture 1 - Kirsten Krans (Arts in Health Netherlands)
This lecture will discuss recent developments following the publication of the white paper “Arts in Health Netherlands”.

Lecture 2 - Dr Erin La Cour (VU Amsterdam)
This lecture focuses on the question of how graphic novels can be used as a doctor-based method of research and knowledge dissemination.

Lecture 3 – Drs. Lenneke Post (Amsterdam UMC)
This lecture will discuss the role of spiritual care in palliative care for people living with (incurable) cancer, either long-term or otherwise.

Keynote 1 – Prof. Dr. Liesbeth Noordegraaf-Eelens (Erasmus University Rotterdam)
This keynote lecture reflects on the question of how and why transdisciplinarity contributes to complex issues in scientific education and research.

Keynote 2 – Prof. Louise Philips (Roskilde University, DK)
In this keynote lecture, the speaker will discuss the complexity of co-creation or cross-disciplinary collaboration as a research approach.
