ArtEZ University of the Arts will be part of Dutch Design Week
- Research
Together with our students, researchers, and partners, we will showcase how design can drive a more sustainable, circular, and regenerative fashion industry through our research projects and community initiatives.
At the heart of our presence is NewTexEco—a large-scale collaboration between ArtEZ, Saxion, the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences, and over twenty partners. Within this network, we combine expertise and creativity to rethink the entire chain: from production and use to care, repair, and reuse. One of its key initiatives, Care & Repair, will also be featured prominently this year.

What to expect from us at Dutch Design Week
Cabinet of Curiosities – Thread of Change (Klokgebouw, 18–26 October, 11:00–18:00)
As part of the Textile Innovation Hub, ArtEZ/NewTexEco presents a Cabinet of Curiosities highlighting the new Care & Repair project. The exhibition Thread of Change invites you to explore a wide variety of objects: from interactive software and garments to furniture and even a specially designed washing machine. Expect to see innovative techniques, sustainable materials, digital fashion concepts, and design-driven projects around garment care and repair.
Design Innovation Sessions – Thriving Planet (Natlab, 21 October, 11:15–12:30)
This session once again shines a spotlight on Care & Repair. Researchers and designers demonstrate how maintenance and repair can extend the life of clothing and contribute to a truly circular and regenerative fashion industry. Through talks, keynotes, and real-world examples, you’ll discover how design can help build a future that restores rather than depletes.
E-magazine launch & networking reception (New Order of Fashion, 21 October, 16:00–18:00)
In the afternoon, we launch the e-magazine From Loose Threads to Fabric, capturing the development of an innovation network for fashion and textiles in the Netherlands. The launch will be followed by a networking reception and a farewell moment for Lucie Huiskens, who has played a pivotal role for more than twenty years in building and energizing this community. Registration is available here.
