Research practice Abhishek Thapar — Lakuna Kitchen

-
Theater aan de Rijn Kleine Oord 33 (ingang: Bartok Park, achter het Feestaardvarken) Arnhem, locations variable (see description)

Social theatre maker Abhishek Thapar focuses the lens on invisible kitchen workers within the hospitality industry. Lacuna Kitchen is a community-arts project, bringing together theatre, gastronomy, community building and social activism in a long-term research and performance that touches both the intellect and the heart. A Kitchen Telling Event by Abhishek Thapar is organised once a month.

Lacuna Kitchen – Abhishek Thapar / Afra Tafri Creations

Indian-Dutch theatre maker and storyteller Abhishek Thapar creates visual and intimate performances on the borderline between documentary and fiction. He combines personal stories with big global themes. He is settling down in Arnhem for his latest project Lacuna Kitchen, which will premiere at Theater a/d Rijn in April 2025. It is neither an ordinary restaurant, nor a traditional theatre production, nor a community project, but a fusion, in which the kitchen transforms into a décor for change. Lacuna Kitchen creates a space in which the stories of others - especially those of kitchen workers from migrant backgrounds - are shared. Through shared experiences of food and stories, Abhishek Thapar aims to build cultural and emotional bridges and promote deep understanding and healing. During the research period, the public can join a number of Kitchen Telling Events.

Arnhems Stadsatelier

These activities are part of the Arnhems Stadsatelier; a brand new collaboration between four Arnhem cultural organisations: Theatre a/d Rijn, Plaatsmaken, ArtEZ and The Hub. Five artists will be given the space and opportunities to conduct artistic research in all sorts of places in Arnhem over the coming months and share it with Arnhem residents, ArtEZ students and each other. The programme encourages special collaborations between people and organisations in Arnhem and breaks art boundaries through cross-disciplinary and innovative research. Read more about all activities of Arnhems Stadsatelier here.
