Seams of a River captures the water movement of the Nederrijn through the Japanese marbling technique Suminagashi. Using a natural blackberry-based ink and a synthetic Sumi ink, the work visualises the human influence on the river as the darker synthetic ink gradually overtakes the lighter natural one. The river is translated into a spatial installation made of sewn fabric pieces that form a continuous flowing structure. The seams mark moments of interruption and human interventions. Hanging at varying heights in wave-like forms, the installation invites viewers to experience the tension between natural flow and a controlled watercourse.
