Bound Fragments focuses on the identity of Cypriots and opens a cosmopolitical perspective on the Cyprus problem where two different communities live separately from each other. This division suggests that our people are either Greek or Turkish speaking Cypriots, however, our heritage suggests otherwise.
Throughout history, there was a lot of cultural exchange within the different communities, as well as influence from the many empires, leaving fragments of their own culture and heritage. As we collected these fragments, a new identity and culture came about.
With this project, I want to embrace our cultural and cosmopolitical similarities; by combining different embroidery techniques we once taught each other, while mixing artefacts from different empires found in Cyprus.
