Young Talent Award for Joep Sporck

Joep Sporck (b. 1985) won the Young Talent Award at the international Krakow Film Music Festival on 28 May. His winning composition was played by a large orchestra to a 10,000-strong audience during a big gala concert at the Tauron Arena in Krakow.

ArtEZ Jazz & Pop is looking forward to welcoming this young, successful composer to its team of lecturers in September. The increase in the number of Composition for Film & Theatre students means Sporck will be the third main subject lecturer alongside Dolf de Kinkelder and Matthias Wittwer.

Sporck took part in an international competition for young film composers in which the task was to create new music for a scene from the film ‘Shrek Forever After’ The international judging panel, which included Harry Gregson-Williams (composer for Shrek), selected Sporck as the competition winner. The prize was a live performance of his submitted piece by a large orchestra. Sporck was awarded his prize in the company of the crème de la crème of the international film music world.

Together with Maarten Spruijt, Joep Sporck composed the film music for ‘Sinterklaas En Het Pakjes Mysterie’ in 2010. Following this collaboration, Joep worked independently on the next Sinterklaas adventure: he composed the music for 'Sinterklaas en het Raadsel van 5 December', 'Joris en Boris en het Geheim van de Tempel' and 'Sinterklaas en de Pepernoten Chaos'. Sporck also recently worked on the music from the short film ‘Weg met Willem’.
