Three secondary schools in Enschede partner with Preparatory Courses ArtEZ Academy of Music

On Monday 31 March, the Stedelijk College Zuid, Stedelijk Kottenpark and the International School Twente signed a partnership agreement with ArtEZ Academy of Music to join ArtEZ Connected, a programme dedicated to nurturing musical talent among secondary school students. The programme also provides a potential pathway to admission at an academy of music.

Extra classes, master classes and a glimpse into life at ArtEZ
Secondary school pupils who stand out in music lessons and are nominated by their teacher are linked to academy of music audition rounds. They also receive one hour of music theory a week at school, based on the ArtEZ curriculum.
In addition, they can take part in master classes and workshops organised by ArtEZ Academy of Music in Enschede, and their teachers can benefit from refresher or advanced training programmes. “This approach allows pupils to experience the standards of a bachelor’s programme in music early on and in a straightforward manner, significantly aiding their development as well as preparation,” says Jeroen Katier, head of the Music in Education programme at ArtEZ Academy of Music in Enschede.
ArtEZ Connected network is growing
ArtEZ Connected is present at all ArtEZ Academy of Music locations in Enschede, Arnhem and Zwolle and is the most accessible preliminary programme to participate in. This is due to the collaboration with the current music school or secondary school. With the addition of these three new secondary schools, ArtEZ Connected in Enschede is expanding further in the Twente region. Schools from Almelo, Kampen, Meppel, Tilburg, Amsterdam and Nijmegen are part of a network of over 25 (music) schools.
‘This large network means that there is a lot of different knowledge available from the region. We combine all this knowledge and in this way we give a boost to music education throughout Gelderland, Overijssel and beyond. In this way, we can provide talent from the age of 10 up to the completion of a master's degree,’ says Katier.
