AKI ArtEZ Academy of Art & Design opens again on 10 October
During the afternoon of 8 October, the Executive Board of ArtEZ University of the Arts decided to proceed with the evacuation and closure of the AKI ArtEZ Academy of Art & Design in Enschede because an object that looked like a molotov cocktail was found against the facade of the building. The Executive Board did not want to take any chances when it came to the safety of students, staff and the surrounding area, so the decision was made to evacuate.
It became clear today that this object was part of a film project by one of our students. The student is very shocked that the project resulted in this reaction and had not realised that the consequences would be so big.
We are very happy that it does not appear to be a concrete threat and look forward to getting back to business as usual tomorrow, 10 October. Needless to say, we will look at what lessons can be learned from this incident.
