New! APRIA Journal, issue #6—Arts in Action: Urgencies in Art and Art Education

  • Research

A brand new issue of APRIA Journal—Arts in Action: Urgencies in Art and Art Education—is published now on apria.artez.nl!

In this issue artists, artisteducators and art researchers relate their artistic practice to the urgencies of the world and attempt to find answers to questions such as: How can art make a difference in a contemporary world dominated by complex and intense political, economic, and environmental challenges and conflicts? Are there right and wrong ways of addressing urgencies through art, research, and education? Should the arts in education be justified because of its usefulness for something else?

This special issue provides insight into some responses to these questions. The contributions ranging from short texts to longer texts, as well as artistic submissions —represent a richness and diversity that cover the fields of visual art, music, and theatre. They all relate to the questions in various ways by addressing how and why art matters, while exploring possible connections between art and societal challenges.

In this journal issue no less than twelve contributions are published, including an exclusive Editorial by Monica Klungland and Lisbet Skregelid and essays, art and (artistic) research of Siemke Böhnisch, Jennifer Ann Skriver, Nina Helene Skogli, Lisbet Skregelid, Jarund Fareland Peder, the Kadha project, Charlotte Blance Myrvold, Hanne Kusk, the Stitch Sisters, Ruth Hol Mjanger and Laura Toxyaerd.

This special issue originates from contributions from the international symposium titled ‘Arts in Action – Urgencies in Art and Art Education’ that was held at the University of Agder in Kristiansand, Norway, from 8 to 10 June 2022.

The full issue is available online and for download in pdf. For more information, please visit apria.atez.nl
