Frida Berntsen and Maaike Kalkhoven both receive a Gelderland Valorizes Startersvoucher
- Fine Art
- Education in Art
The startervoucher Gelderland valorizes is a subsidy of €2,500 for students and alumni of ArtEZ up to three years after graduation. This voucher is intended for initial investments for the start-up of a new, innovative company. The start-up vouchers are designed for students, Ph.D. students, and graduates of ArtEZ University of the Arts, the University of Arnhem and Nijmegen (HAN), Radboud University (RU), and Van Hall Larenstein (VHL).
As a multidisciplinary artist, Frida explores how old crafts and traditions can be of value today. Frida graduated from BEAR this year and presented her business concept to the assessment committee. She believes that when a product is made with attention, love, and time, you are less likely to get rid of it and treat it with care. Her exclusive tablecloths, for example, are traditionally printed and woven with exclusive yarns into damask rugs. She can further develop her artwork and design products with a grant of 2,500 euros. With the voucher, she will expand her business with room for experimentation and research.
Maaike graduated this year from the Fine Art, Design, and Education course ArtEZ Arnhem with her Galerieniemini. Maaike creates exhibitions and offers art education programs and methods for children aged 3 to 12. She wants to provide art education about contemporary art from all corners of the world in an accessible and interactive way. For example, she deploys children with an eye for art as children's curators to help develop exhibitions and educational programs. Galerieniemini always takes its presentation to the location around which they create and offer a teaching program. Maaike will pay for materials and set up a driving exhibition by cargo bike. The voucher provides her with a solid business ground to start with several expositions in the first year.
