- ArtEZ Prizewinner
On 13 December, during the NFF Talent Days, the Netherlands Film Fund’s Wildcards were presented at the Netherlands Film Festival. Among the winners was Marten Visser, recently graduated from the ArtEZ bachelor Animation Design. He received an 'animation' Wildcard for his short film HOANOE.
.

“Insects, animals and landscape pass the viewer’s gaze in a meditative way. Is it nature or the supernatural? A hummingbird drinks water from a smoking volcano. A ladybird flies through the air holding a jellyfish in its legs. A snail climbs a towering mountain. Short animation about nature, with a twist.”
This is the NFF description of Marten Visser’s animation HOANOE: the film he graduated with as an animation designer this year. His graduation film is about nature, somewhat different than we know it, shown in a peaceful way. Marten’s dissertation is an exploration of the meditative aspects of film. Which elements of film can allow film to be experienced as meditation?
“I would like to know what people think of a film I have made”, says Marten on his ArtEZ portfolio page. “The film has given me inspiration for a potential new film – I have achieved that much already!” Which works out really well, because with HOANOE, Marten has won a contribution towards making a new film. We can’t wait to see the result!
