Understated theatricality
The tiny front door of this academy of music in Zwolle's city centre hides a colourful world. As soon as you step inside, you find yourself in the busy canteen, where you might see one student working out a composition on a laptop and another leaning on a cello case and chatting to a lecturer. The high domes and open indoor courtyard complete the picture: this is the perfect environment for progressive musicians. Walk a little further through the building and you'll hear fragments of soloing violinists or even complete orchestras through half-open windows.
Making music together
Different cultures, disciplines, music genres and ages intermingle here. Do you hear lively sounds and rhythms blending in the background? Then you know you're in the right place! Making music together is something that happens a lot at the Academy of Music in Zwolle. For example during auditions, projects, in curricular education or as part of the ArtEZ Big Band, ArtEZ Moderne, ArtEZ op de Planken (ArtEZ on Stage) or our ArtEZ Pop Orchestra.
