Nefeli Stavrou

In a world of instantness, Nefeli Stavrou approaches her work in a slower and more deliberate manner. She prefers to create with a hands-on method focusing on printing techniques. Nefeli is a Cypriot-Dutch designer, who works with intuitive minimalistic rules, which she also breaks to create more playful graphic work. Furthermore, she often explores personal themes of experiences and identity, while materialising them into light-hearted zines, prints or autobiographical pieces which give her emotions space to live. Through her photography she captures timelessness of places she visits and especially the beauty of the island she grew up on, Cyprus.

Through evocative poetry and landscape-like imagery of her back, Nefeli transforms the weight of wearing a medical back brace during puberty into a vibrant explosion of colour. Rooted in the reality that females are more likely to develop scoliosis, this personal narrative delves into a relationship between the female body and the brace.
