ON EYELEVEL
What happens when the world isn’t made to your size?
Most of what surrounds us, from chairs to grocery shelves, is designed for the so-called “average” body. But what happens when your body doesn’t fit that standard?
“On Eyelevel” challenges the quiet biases of standardized design through a series of playful, interactive objects that explore how height influences our perception, behavior and social interactions. Rather than proposing adjustments to bodies, the project shifts the focus to how we perceive and respond to physical differences. It uses optical illusions and perspective twists to make visible the ways our environments accommodate or exclude certain bodies, and how these disparities influence everyday interactions.
The project consists of a series of complementary objects that explore different ways to measure, experience and question height. They invite users to engage physically and playfully, inviting conversation and reflection. The mirror object is based on the principle of a periscope, by adjusting the mirrors to your eye height, it enables people of different heights to have an eye-to-eye conversation. It’s a simple, striking effect that aims to bridge height gaps and change perspective, both literally and metaphorically.
Anna Fehn graduated in 2025 from the Product Design program at ArtEZ. Her work draws from lived experience and uses humor and interaction to uncover the invisible rules shaping daily life. Through playful critical design, she explores how we might build more inclusive systems starting, quite literally, on eye-level.
