Heidi Fitri

Heidi Fitri is a feminist mixed media artist who's interested in language, films, sex and autonomy. Her very autobiographical works are based on pain, pride, rage, grief, love, and care. These interests and experiences are translated through ceramics, sculptures, performances, and text.

Heidi has been working around the topic of womanhood for the past 4 years. This research has found a lot of different forms, from her candle work in memory of that show all things that have gone and cannot come back, to her extensive ceramic collection of meals her mother cooked for her called: My Mother Is The Knot That Makes A Home. Her mother is also the inspiration for her karaoke-based performances, in which she sings songs that embody the hidden rage and longing of stay at home moms.

Not only does Heidi’s work show this loving, complicated, and caring side of being a woman, Heidi also has a great passion for outing the ugliness of patriarchy. Through clever play on words, revisiting the meanings of certain terms and placing these meanings in different contexts Heidi actively challenges patriarchal societal beliefs.

Above all this extensive research and carefully created work, Heidi just wants to make her mother proud.
