An Kuper

With interests in queer feminist theory, An Kuper questions who is in control of the narratives about queer bodies and they aim to create alternatives for these (unwanted) narratives. An aims to create a counter-reaction to the predominantly heteronormative, ableist, white, sterile art world by performing transitions from specific stereotypes to others and embodying the state of these transitions. An is narrating their performance through a possible protagonist “Helena”, their worm-based alter-ego. Through Helena, An is embodying different genders and appropriating power-related gestures. Their performance installation is a space where queer bodies and their altered I’s are being debated, gestures are being thought through, perspectives are being shifted and the audience is being confronted with the question: ‘’Are you ready to become the protagonist of your own life?’’ A Misguided Belief is a performance installation showing both video works that came to life after intensive collaborations with other queer people, the embodiment of Helena and the presence of the bouncers that are being performed by live performers. All these bodies within the live performance and their video works are carrying different stories needing to be shared. By creating altered I’s, both with other queers and by themself, they aim to take back agency on the queer narrative.
