Who is measuring?

“Who would have thought precision could be so messy, standardisation so divisive and mistakes so productive?” - The Measure of All Things.

Measurement is one of the most ordinary actions. We exchange its universal language whenever using numbers and units with exactitude. This very ubiquity, though, makes measurement relatively invisible and mostly functional.

This video installation highlights the hidden layers of something seemingly rational like the metric system, who set this standard and how, while contrasting it with the aesthetics of chronophotography. With the increasing tendency to measure anything and everything, shouldn’t we question, what exactly is “the meter”?
