How are things now with Michael de Geus?

  • Fashion

Last year, ditisarnhem.nl spoke to Michael de Geus. At the time, he was one of the graduating students from the 63rd intake of the bachelor course in Fashion Design in Arnhem. Now Michael is working in Copenhagen. How are things going?

How are things now with Michael de Geus?

"I want to discover the world and learn lots of things". This was how Michael ended his story last year, and that's exactly what he's doing. Through someone who was doing an internship at HELIOT EMIL in Copenhagen, Michael came into contact with the fashion brand, where he was appointed Assistant Designer.

Working in Copenhagen

"There was an immediate rapport, and even before the next intake started at ArtEZ, I'd moved to Denmark. I'm really enjoying Copenhagen and my work. It's different from school. At work, you look at things less from your own perspective and more in terms of what the company wants and what their goals are. It was great fun discovering the person I was designing for. What does this person wear, where is this person going, etc. I started at the beginning of the fashion season with research, in a small team with a lot of responsibility. Things went step by step, and later I rolled more into the production," says Michael.

Paris Fashion Week

One of the highlights of Michael's year was Paris Fashion Week. "I always enjoyed working towards one thing at school, and that was obviously what we were doing with Paris Fashion Week too. You're so involved in it and then it's done. At the beginning of March, the team went to Paris, and we presented our debut show in Palais de Tokyo. It was a case of working until late at night, but it was all worth it."

What Michael took away with him from ArtEZ is the work mentality:

"At ArtEZ, you needed to work hard, and I now benefit from that mentality of getting on with things. I also learned a lot from the technical basis provided at ArtEZ. I'm really enjoying Copenhagen!"
