Stefan Rokebrand wins Musical Award

On 11 January, the Musical Awards 2017 were presented at the Beatrix Theatre in Utrecht. The award for the 'best small musical' went to Chez Brood, about the life of rock hero Herman Brood. Actor Stefan Rokebrand, alumnus of the ArtEZ Theatre School, won the award for 'best actor in a small musical' for his portrayal of Brood, beating Paul Groot (Robert Long) and Mike Weerts (Dansen met de vijand).

Other major winners:
Best large musical: Ciske de Rat
Best actor in a large musical: Alex Klaasen in De gelaarsde poes
Best actress in a large musical: Vera Mann in Sweeney Todd
Best actress in a small musical: Loes Luca in In de ban van Broadway

Chez Brood was nominated for no fewer than nine Musical Awards in total. Also nominated were Bart Chabot (script), Victor Löw (director), Jeroen Sleyfer (arrangements), Ascon de Nijs (decor), Tibor Lukács (best supporting actor in a small musical), Owen Schumacher (best supporting actor in a small musical) and Rosa Reuten (best supporting actress in a small musical).
