Research themes at ArtEZ

The research at ArtEZ is divided into various themes: sustainable fashion and design principles; Artificial Intelligence and music therapy; The future of art education, and Theory in the arts. These themes are guidelines, not strict requirements. Within these themes, our research groups collaborate with students, faculty, other institutions, and practice partners to achieve sustainable innovations and critical artistic interventions.

Our research themes

Sustainable fashion and design principles

Sustainable fashion and design principles

What are the alternatives to the often polluting fashion industry? What are the new value chains that need to be established for this, and what does this mean for the future (fashion) designers?
AI and music therapy

AI and music therapy

From noise-cancelling incubators to the neuroscience behind music therapy: extensive research is being conducted on the latest developments in music therapy within the research groups and the academy of music in Enschede.
The future of art education

The future of art education

What is the role of art and art education in times of uncertainty about the future? And what does the art academy of the future look like? Researchers and students collaborate within this theme to develop new forms of learning.
Theory in the arts

Theory in the arts

Art, design, and music have both a practical, artistic, and applied side. But what about the development of the theoretical aspect of the arts? What trends are visible, and in what ways are theory and practice interwoven in the arts?
