Within the performing arts, the Theory in the Arts professorship has for some time focused on its own connection with the dance academy. In the project 'Unpacking Performativity' more than two years have been spent analysing and putting into practice the results of research into the relationship between dance made in public places (free, non-institutional and non-hierarchical Urban dance, for example b-boying) and the academic, institutional tradition of classical and modern dance. The resulting theoretical findings and outcomes of this 'action research' have been directly applied within the current curriculum at the dance academy.

Unpacking Performativity

The Unpacking Performativity, or UP, research project investigated the relationship between urban dance and academic dance. The focus was directed towards the underlying structure and organizational forms that influence artistic outputs and forms of education.
