Maria Cozzani
Maria Isolina Cozzani (b. 1994) is a violinist, composer, and multimedia artist currently based in Arnhem. With a background in classical, jazz, contemporary music, and free improvisation, she collaborates with various ensembles and performers across Europe. Her interdisciplinary concept- based production deals with the combination of music, visuals and performance, travelling through inner worlds, dystopian settings and raw nature. Currently she's collaborating mainly with Matteo Traverso in their audio-visual project Our Past Microtonal Love (O.P.M.L.) and with Kim Kamilla Jaeger and Sol Jang in their improvising trioLAVISH.

In the Master of Music at ArtEZ she worked on various projects collaborating with artists coming from different worlds and disciplines. She investigated the possibilities within free improvised music conceiving a way of composing that involves sound, space, visuals and light. Her production often dealt with detachment, breaking down her aquired knowledge and musical background into fragmented elements, to give them a new perspective, a new combination towards musical pieces, performances and artworks.

In her final piece, ISLN - geography of sounds, shapeshifting multiplicities, she is giving life, sound and space to her Master research about free improvisation, musical interaction within groups and sound perspectives.
ISLN - geography of sounds, shapeshifting multiplicities

In ISLN - geography of sounds, shapeshifting multiplicities, Maria Isolina Cozzani is bringing her Master research to the surface. Enabling an unexplored space and time for improvisation, ISLN takes place in an imaginary setting where the commuted laws of physics make room for renewed perspectives. A constellation of islands inhabited by sounding organisms describe a geography of sounds, a constellation of objects, entities, expressions, qualities and territories that come together for periods of time to ideally create new ways of functioning. This assemblage, by making numerous and unexpected connections, creates an ecology, one entity out of it all, a shapeshifter made of organisms and sounds assembling people and ideas together.
