Liesbeth Piena, who graduated from AKI ArtEZ Fine Art (Painting) in Enschede this summer, is the winner of the Kunst aan de Dijk Kortenhoef Award for Young Talent 2018 for visual artists. Every year Kunst aan de Dijk Kortenhoef stimulates the artistic development of a young talent in music or painting with a monetary prize of €5,000. In addition to the sum of money, the winner of the prize for painting receives a trophy and a solo exhibition is organised.
This year the Dutch art academies nominated a total of thirteen candidates for the prize. The jury, which consisted of visual artists Johan van Oord and Niek Hendrix and art historians Cato Cramer and Pia van Wijnbergen, decided to visit three artists' studios after the first selection. After careful consideration, Liesbeth emerged as the winner.
