The ArtEZ Jazz & Pop teaching team will receive two new members on September 2016: Jerôme Hol and Joep Sporck. Jerôme Hol will succeed Bernhard Reinke, who is retiring after 28 years at ArtEZ. Teaming up with Onno Kelk, Frank Sichmann and Henk van Rossum, ArtEZ Jazz & Pop will have a strong and versatile team of guitar teachers. Due to the growth of the number of Composition students for Film & Theatre, Joep Sporck will join the team as the third main subject lecturer, alongside Dolf de Kinkelder and Matthias Wittwer.

Jerôme Hol (1981) has developed rapidly in recent years into one of the most unique guitarists of his generation. Inspired by Eddie van Halen, the Rolling Stones and Jimi Hendrix, he learned to play guitar at an early age. It wasn’t long before jazz piqued his interest. After completing his music study, he moved to New York in 2005 to study with guitar legends such as Wayne Krantz and Hiram Bullock. Since then, he has developed his own sound by combining his solid heavy metal sound with the warmth of blues and the harmonic subtlety of jazz. He is also a versatile composer. In 2010 he formed his own trio with legendary bassist Harry Emmery and energetic drummer Erik Kooger. The trio plays Jerôme Hol’s own work, which contains rock, impro, blues and jazz elements. The combination of electric guitar, acoustic bass and “jazz” drums lends the trio their unique sound. The trio’s first album, “You’ll Hear It”, was released recently. Jerôme also tours with artists including Hans Dulfer, Michiel Borstlap, Dick de Graaf and Pieter Douma.

Joep Sporck (1985) is a Dutch composer for film, TV and media. He wrote music for various films, shorts, documentaries, TV and radio advertisements as well as theatre projects. As an independent composer, Sporcks’ style is characterised by the unique way in which he combines orchestral music with other acoustic instruments and electronic textures. His other music-related activities include conducting and teaching music. In addition to composing, Joep also works for ProjectSAM, a sample development company from Utrecht. Whether it’s about creating the right music or image, or conjuring up a certain image through his music, Sporck brings visual material to life.
