Specific admission criteria for Guitar

In addition to the general admission criteria, there are specific admission requirements for the Guitar major. You prepare five pieces that are slightly different in character and tempo. You are free to choose the style of the pieces, so you can play any kind of jazz, latin or pop music as well as a mix of various styles. During the audition, you will perform a minimum of two and a maximum of three of the prepared pieces. You do this preferably with your own band or, if that is impossible, with students of the Academy of Music.

Important aspects, which can be part of the audition and are taken into account in the assessment, are the following:

  • play the music and style you like best and be open for the unknown;
  • whatever you play - play it with expression, intensity and fun;
  • the main aspects are: timing, phrasing, interaction (with the other players) and sound. Feel free to bring your pedals:
  • play with a relaxed posture and adequate left and right hand technique;
  • sufficient knowledge of the basic scales, arpeggios and chords (triads and seventh chords) is required;
  • show that you can play basic jazz chord schemes and improvise on them (by ear as welle as from sheet music);
  • repeat a simple lick or phrase by ear;
  • demonstrate some examples of your abilities to accompany (by means of a simple chord scheme and/or a few riffs).
