Rosa van Leeuwen (31), former student of ArtEZ School of Acting in Arnhem, received the Colombina 2019 award at the Gala van het Nederlands Theater (Dutch Theatre Gala) in Amsterdam last night for her role as Honey in the production of 'Who's afraid of Virginia Woolf' by Dood Paard.

From the jury report: "Rosa van Leeuwen surpasses herself in 'Who's afraid of Virginia Woolf?' She plays Honey as a many-faceted woman, balancing powerfully between strength and vulnerability. She fights back and feeds the underlying conflict by manipulating, appearing and disappearing at the right moments, and by enjoying the spectacle. Van Leeuwen enables you to decipher the character of Honey in a fresh way." In the past academic year, Rosa directed the graduation performance 'MORPH' together with Matthijs IJgosse. She herself graduated from the ArtEZ School of Acting in Arnhem in 2013. She was also one of the founders of the Moeremans and Sons collective and featured in the VPRO series 'Suspicious Minds’.

Other nominees for the Colombina 2019 award were Ariane Schluter and co-alumnus Joy Delima, who was nominated for her role in the play 'Onze Straat' (Our Street) by Het Nationale Theater during her internship.
