Artefacts of Introspection

Introspection, a radical act in an increasingly fast paced world.

So why is introspective practice not of bigger importance in our daily lives?

Thinking about the self, assessing our emotional landscapes. It’s a scary practice to most, herself included. Yet of great importance to a metastable brain and overall emotional wellbeing.

Slowness is an important aspect of my designs as it is closely linked to introspective practice. Neurologically it is close to impossible to be in an introspective state when thinking fast. Slowness is incorporated in this collection through ritual and interaction. Slowing people down physically.

Besides Yfke is evoking a state of wonder through metaphor, tactility, and the use of colour.

For example, using the colour black to create a sense of depth and using different materials like, burned wood and glass to invite people to interact with the objects.

With Artefacts of Introspection, Yfke creates a physical reminder of the intangible process of thinking about the self. Thus, not only reminding people to slow down and introspect but also offering them the tools to do so.
