Solanyi van Solingen 1
Detail of hanging piece for Installation artwork

Solanyi van Solingen (NL, CW, COL, 1996), is a multimedia-based artist and researcher based in the Netherlands. Solanyi specializes in ceramics, natural dyes, drawing and embroidery. She explores nature by means of collecting and creating natural, living colours, using different parts of plants. She inspects the interrelationships between humans and the more-than-human world. Birthed from her curiosity into our plant-siblings, animal-kins, and fungi, she explores morphing(s), the representation of bodies and their metamorphosis; the relationship between bodies and the earth where there is change and transformation. The creation of new beings shows the connection between humans and nature and our mutually interlocked flourishing. Also realizing how our bodies are fragile and mortal, she asks herself how to take and share the gifts of the natural world in a wise and balanced way. She brings her audience to recognise that we live inside of nature as much as it lives inside of us.

Process living flower for installation artwork

In the BEAR finals 2022 Solanyi presents an installation that is in between a laboratory and a kitchen. Where different stimuli are activated by walking through the garden Solanyi created. You can read the work as a transformative multi-species birthing and an interrelatedness garden. She asks you to find a wondrous hybridity between animal, plant, and human shapes, tracing the realms and stages between life and death through the pieces in the installation.
