Who are you as a performer/artist?

As an artist I’m a bit all over the place but still very focused and determined to find my own way in this exciting but sometimes confusing dance world. What I love about art and dance is that it triggers my imagination to enter a very playful and childlike state of mind. The act of making and being in a creative process gives me a sense of purpose in this confusing world. What I’m always curious about is how I with the body as a starting point can investigate and expand my perception of relationships both between disciplines, objects and people.

What are your ambitions?

I’m currently searching for ways to accept the unknown in life and in my creative work instead of trying to control it or push it in a certain direction. The question I continue to ask myself is about how to work? I’m investigating in what environment I need to situate myself to feel inspired and supported as an artist. My aim is to find a creative way of working that really works for me rather than me
killing myself for the work. My ambition is to create long term sustainable working habits so that I can continue to stay curious and excited about dancing and making.

Where do you find inspiration?

I find a lot of inspiration in everyday life and by just observing people walking on the street or sitting in the train for example. My aim is to make work that somehow captures the beauty, brutality and absurdity of our everyday lives. Some people that really have succeeded with this in my opinion are the filmmaker Roy Andersson and the choreographer Alain Platel.

What did you do at your internship & what did you learn?

During my internship year I have done a lot of different things. I have made several pieces for myself and in collaboration with others. I have learned a lot about how to start building your own network as a freelancer and all the things that come with it, such as invoicing, planning, budgeting etc. I am currently in a creation process with Moon Production led by Hendrik Aerts as a part of the cast. We are making an interdisciplinary performance together with actors, musicians and dancers. The performance will later be performed and toured in the Netherlands over the summer.

I’m not a storyteller. I’m more an expresser. I often come back to art history. Art history is not storytelling. Art is moments, details,
signs of how mankind can be. That’s enough. In my opinion it’s not necessary to have a linear story," - Roy Andersson
