Who are you as a performer/artist?

I am a dancer with a lot of resilience and drive for my art form. I love to go outside my comfort zone and make tough decisions if it is beneficial for my growth. I love to find my limits as a person and dancer and push them even further and see how far I can get.
One of the most defining things about me as a dancer is that I live by putting my inside world on stage when I perform, to fully live and feel every movement I make. I do not dance for the public; I dance to experience something magical and extraordinary.

What are your ambitions?

My ambitions are to find my way in the dance world. How I can balance my dance and private life and be happy and fulfilled in what I do? This might sound simple, but I’m now discovering this is harder than I thought. I always crave a sense of freedom, but dance takes up most of my time in my life. I don’t mind this because I feel a great sense of passion for my art form, but I am also curious to discover myself as a human too.
I would also love to work with Hofesh Shecter somewhere in the future because when I dance to his work, I truly feel like I belong. It was one of those moments where you find this and everything you have been doing seems to make a lot of sense suddenly.

Where do you find inspiration?

My biggest inspirations are my friends and loved ones. I love to debate topics with them. This could be my struggles in life, but also controversial thoughts. I love to hear other people's opinions and to hear how they view life. They always seem to give a sense of fresh air in my life. I wouldn’t be where I am without them.

What did you do at your internship & what did you learn?

I went to Osnabrück Dance Theater in Germany. I chose this internship because it is quite balletic and far from my way of moving, which is contemporary with influences of breakdance, so it seemed like a good challenge and it was. I think I have never been so out of my comfort zone like this, but it made me grow so much. For this reason, I am forever grateful.
The year existed out of 4 productions. Iraxte and Igor created ‘Portrait of an Artist’, ‘Holland’ and ‘Le Chat Noir’ by Ed Wubbe and ‘DWA ZWEI’ by Adi Salant and Maciej Kuzminski.
There is also a production named “Young Choreographers” where dancers are allowed to make pieces. I am dancing for Barbara Minacori and Emanuela Vurro.
I have to say that this year has been one of the toughest years I have experienced. I had to move away from my friends and family and ended up in a company where I could not lean on my natural talents. The only way to survive and grow was to work hard and give myself the space and time to learn. I do have to say I have been super lucky with the dancers in the company. Even though I got some rough treatment, the dancers in the company were cheering for every victory I had, guiding me with every struggle I encountered and giving me the love I needed, when I was feeling down. They are motivated people who bring a nice working atmosphere.
I believe that the people in the dance scene make it worth it in the end. I have met the most wonderful and inspiring people in my life in this profession and it is always the reason I can keep on going.
