ProgrammaIn een workshop van een week werk je aan onderzoek naar ruimte waarbij de relatie tussen het lichaam en de ruimte centraal staat. Daarbij werk je vanuit diverse onderzoekende houdingen: research by making, research by thinking, research by trial. Je gaat tekenen, modellen maken, werken op ware grootte en documenteren.
De docent van de Summer School is John Lonsdale: “If knowledge is forged in movement then how can we understand architecture within these terms too? When making things it is through movement that helps us to understand and to create. We try things out and in so doing begin to learn of the material, what it does and what we can do to it and what, in turn it can do or mean to us. Tim Ingold says that all our whereabouts are experienced as a ‘wayfarer’ with which we are in correspondence. It is an embodied experience by which know where we are and how we gain a sense of self. So the workshop begins with working with one material in a direct and visceral way. From the outset we shall have no idea of an outcome or a projection of the result. It is through making that we shall find out where we go with the material, setting off on a path of knowing by doing, for doing something is a movement and is in the very nature of making. The week shall be made up of a series of short workshops with some exercises in registering movements made whilst working with one material”.

John Lonsdale - tutor
John Lonsdale, architect en landschapskunstenaar
John studeerde aan de Architectural Association in Londen. In 2001 ontving hij de Prix de Rome voor landschapsarchitectuur en stedenbouw voor zijn werk genaamd ‘Shifting Horizons’ voordat hij in 2004 zijn praktijk John Lonsdale Architect stichtte. Hij onderzoekt de relatie tussen architectuur en landschap met gebouwen of architectuur als middel om zijn kunst uit te drukken. Sinds 2014 werkt zijn praktijk aan de restauratie van een kleine boerderij in Northumberland, terwijl Lonsdale toonaangevende workshops in architectuur en landschap in binnen- en buitenland verzorgt. Hij geeft nu les aan Northumbria University.
In de workshop word je begeleid door docenten uit het (inter)nationale werkveld, zowel binnen de discipline interieurarchitectuur als daarbuiten. Gedurende de week neem je bovendien deel aan het sociale programma, activiteiten die je laten kennismaken met elkaar en de stad Zwolle. Er is een community-lunch, een avondprogramma en een gezamenlijke aankomst en afsluiting.
