Can you stop looking?

you're reaching for it.

My laptop is the device I use everyday. I use it for work, gaming and entertainment. My laptop becomes all I need. But it doesn’t always do what I want it to do. While I want to do 3000 things at once my computer always tries to keep up. Until it can’t, and it crashes.

Can you stop looking? tells the story of the relationship we have with the devices that are closest to us. The video work explores the fictive story told from the perspective of the user reflecting towards the computer through dance, movement and lighting. What if our computers start to get feelings towards us? What if the computer gets a voice? An opinion? A human-like brain? What if we start treating the computer as our equal?

About Demi van Venrooij

Demi van Venrooij (1998) is a designer interested in conceptual design and storytelling with a love for film and book design. In her work she takes inspiration from pop culture, media, performance arts and the thousands of films and series she watches all at the same time. She uses these phenomenon to form and show her own opinion on them through design. Besides this, she likes to watch other people build houses in The Sims and obsess about her cat.
