Can't leave my emotions just a Blank

Imagine every outline I draw to build their life and emotion. The installation of the type specimen series Can't leave my emotions just a blank is the journey to explore what emotional typefaces lead and how they are formed as characters. Through building a fictional, (auto)biographical story: ‘Ttubogi: Mind Walker’, I perceive a typeface as an emotional personality with a complex narrative.

The story defined the emotions, which I could not describe in words—and visualized them as a letterform. My aesthetic sensibility, resulting in an aesthetic combination of ‘comic background effects’ and movement. The collection of type specimens suggest narrative paths through this material, presenting work as an expanded comic scene.

About Hyolim(Summer) Lee

Hyolim(Summer) Lee is a graphic designer and type designer with a focus on storytelling through typefaces. From South Korea, Summer moved to the Netherlands and started study at the ArtEZ. She is interested in how font invokes emotion in the reader as the combining together of strokes and dots. Also, she believes the morphological elements of typeface create a tone of voice which could be an expression or visual language. Her works mainly illustrate possibilities of the emotional typeface. Other than that, Summer spends her time busily drawing illustrations and comics. ( ◠‿◠ )
