DE ALLÁ PA ACÁ

Some microbes that live in lithium can stay alive once extracted, and might still be alive powering our devices right now. De Allá Pa Acá (translated from colloquial Chilean: From there to here) follows a microbe’s journey from the Atacama Desert in the north of Chile to the lithium battery powering your laptop. The microbe serves as a vehicle to tell the multiplicity of stories that lie in the sand; From the cosmological creation of lithium to the necropolitics during Pinochet’s dictatorship.

Through the lens of animism the video questions: What else does this microbe carry? What kind of stories does it transmit? Who has it encountered in its way? These questions are answered through the course of four phases: the Creation, the Excavation, the Brine, and the Current.
