Arborescent

The language of trees is complicated, with weathered barks embracing their twisted trunks, slender twigs piercing vibrant foliage, and underground roots whispering through vast fungal networks…

Through the project Arborescent, meaning resembling a tree in growth or appearance, the designer explores the possibilities of artificial nature and plant culture by materializing the language of trees, aiming to evoke alternative perspectives and narratives that challenge the human-nature duality and anthropocentric view.

Drawing inspiration from the language of trees, as well as the art of Bonsai and trees in various spiritual practices, innovating from the crafts of basketry and paper weaving, the designer set out to create a collection of arborescent objects, ranging from non-woven baskets to fake Bonsai trees. Through this work, the designer unravels the profound interconnections between ecology, mythology, and crafts, inviting us to see ourselves and our culture as part of a larger, interwoven, and sophisticated ecosystem.
