Lynn Broertjes

Lynn Broertjes (Amsterdam, Netherlands 1995)

The path from what you already know to what you don't know yet.

The world of perception, which is revealed to us through our senses. We seem to know this well at first glance. It goes without saying because we don't need any tools or calculations to access it. To really get through to reality we just seem to have to open our eyes and let life come to us.

What if you can't see depth! We have taught ourselves the depth that we perceive, but this is each our own reality. In the case of Dutch artist, Lynn Broertjes, claims that realising that you are different, or look different, often arouses insecure feelings. Do they understand me if I am different? Am I included?

She doesn’t think it is important to tell what you need to see here, rather she thinks it is important to express what she sees. She does not see being born with an eye defect as a negative, she sees it as a plus. Using the vulnerability that thus becomes her strength. The images that she creates and record give her a profound sense of freedom, a freedom of observation where no conviction is established.

A belief is actually a limitation, it limits your image and thoughts. It's fixed, it's frozen.

Lynn wants to depart from and get away from the moment, the image must be time in of itself. So, she is breaking with the belief that an image or object is stuck in its context. She breaks by letting go of that belief. In this way a free space is created, a space where everything becomes a playground.
