Lore Pilzecker
In her work Lore Pilzecker research artworks that are engrained in the cultural identity of the public space (mostly artworks in public space). These representations fundamentally relate to power. Power can be bought by money. Thus, various institutions reproduce the artwork, increasing their own revenue, introducing a global reproduction of the original artwork. Every ‘famous’ artwork attains cultic status, part of which is attributed to tradition. The reproduction of this artwork creates a new meaning, represented without the historical value and in another context.
"I spent half a year in Italy, where I found a replica of Michelangelo’s famous David. The David is a cultural masterpiece, recognised globally. This admiration is in part connected towards mass reproduction. I want to create a new view on this reproduction through new media technology and making (globalized produced) souvenirs, merchandise and postcards."
