Archive no. 1 FOAM

For a long time, we have been thinking that lengthening the lifetime of products is essential to reduce waste by recycling, re-using, re-purposing and so on. But why not rethink the material we use in products in order to match the time of existence to the time of usage?

By only using plant-based ingredients Lisanne Peters opens the doors for temporary materials. Archive no. 1 FOAM is the creation of a new, soft and foam-like material. Where a lot of foam sorts will degrade over a timespan of 50 to 500 years resulting in 230 Olympic swimming pools full of Styrofoam thrown away yearly in the Netherlands, Archive no. 1 FOAM can biodegrade in 3 weeks after usage. In addition to the material archive, a book was made, showing the creation of Archive no. 1 FOAM alongside interviews with experts with the aim to spread knowledge about how we can make biodegradable materials accessible.
