Soft Fascination 

“There should be more space to rest our mind and let it wander in our busy lives in crowded cities.”

“Soft Fascination", is a series of city jewelry that is wind responsive. The pieces are designed to wave with the breeze, similar to the way natural elements move, like rustling leaves and swaying grass.

Living in the urban environment can be quite hectic. There are a lot of stimuli present such as traffic, signs and advertisements. This often leads to people “checking out”, they are disconnected from their environments. Looking at their phones or wearing headphones, city folk miss out on the grounding effects of watching the sky and feeling the breeze.

Research has shown that soft fascination, something that happens when observing natural phenomena, leads to calmness, offering space to organize your thoughts, to dream, to fantasize.

By exploring structures found in the natural- and the urban environment like trees and antennas, I came to the shapes of the city jewellery. Though brightly coloured and reflective to stand out in the urban landscape, they behave more like the leaves on the trees; dynamically, reactive to the elements.

Through the “Soft Fascination” series, I aim to offer people a moment of connection with the environment, to experience a sense of calm amidst the urban hustle.
