If you need financial support, you may be eligible for a financial arrangement. On this page you will find a few important financial arrangements for students.
Please note: not all arrangements may apply to your situation. It depends on several factors, including your (part-time) job, residence status, and nationality. Please check carefully whether you meet the requirements.

If you are enrolled at a university in the Netherlands, and you are Dutch or you have the same rights, you might be eligible for student finance.
If you are not eligible for student finance because of your nationality, you might still be eligible for a student loan. Note that you will always have to pay back the loan, with interest.

If you are not eligible for student finance or a student loan, but you plan to study to become an educator, you may be eligible for a teaching grant. You must be Dutch or have the same rights.

If you are already qualified to teach, and if you are working as an educator in the Netherlands, you can apply for funding when you continue studying. Application is possible between 1 February and 15 March.
The government encourages students to pursue a first or second degree in healthcare or education, due to the shortage of staff in these sectors. This means you will pay the statutory tuition fees (instead of the much higher institutional tuition fees) for a programme in healthcare or education. This only applies if your previous degree is not in education or healthcare.

If you want to study but are not eligible for regular student financing, and are between 30 and 57 years old, you may be eligible for the lifelong learning credit. Note that you will always have to pay back the loan, with interest.

Are you eligible for student finance and experiencing study delays due to personal circumstances, such as disability or illness? You may be able to apply for financial support through the Profiling Fund (also known as the Performance Grant Provision).

Municipalities sometimes offer financial aid for individuals with a lower income. The aid might not be available for international students. Check the requirements on the website of your municipality (only in Dutch):

Every municipality has a local social support team ('sociaal wijkteam'). You can contact this team for advice on health, mental health, and financial matters. They can also refer you to other relevant organisations.

If you receive student finance and are unable to work while studying due to a disability or chronic illness, you may be eligible for a municipal study benefit. Please check the requirements on your municipality’s website (in Dutch only):

If you are receiving unemployment benefits and want to study to improve your chances of finding a job, the UWV may be willing to cover (part of) your tuition fees.
