Werkplaats Typografie is based in two locations: Amsterdam and Arnhem. In Arnhem, the master’s programme is housed in its own dedicated building, separate from the academy. The building, a former radio distribution station dating from 1937, offers participants their own workspace in one of its various rooms. Werkplaats Typografie also has a library and a communal kitchen where participants prepare shared lunches. Everyone has a key and can use the facilities at any time.
Each participant brings their own computer and, through ArtEZ, has access to affordable design software such as Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign and Acrobat. Every workspace is equipped with an internet connection, a colour laser printer and a black-and-white printer. Additional facilities include an A2 Risograph, scanners, projectors, sound recorders and professional digital cameras.
Werkplaats Typografie holds a small collection of books and magazines, including typographic manuals, academic works, art catalogues and contemporary literature – as well as an open digital archive featuring works created by participants. Master’s students also have full access to the ArtEZ media library and the well-equipped workshops available across ArtEZ buildings.
