“Four years ago I couldn’t even reach the back row.”
Personal performance
“This performance is about big emotions,” says Thor. It is not about reason and a sound mind, but about surrender. In Jongens, he dives into his own experiences as a young gay man as he explores his fascination with the Italian filmmaker and writer Pier Paolo Pasolini. A controversial figure. The result is an intimate, vulnerable performance. “Because it’s so personal, I hope to open minds and sow more understanding.”
Give it all you've got
In the bachelor’s programme School of Acting, you learn to perform and to create. Thor experienced this first-hand: “I used to play small and close to myself. Here I really learned to use my body and voice.” In addition to technique, he also gained insight into the process: how to set up a performance, involve others and take responsibility for every part. From props to planning. “If the batteries for my cassette recorder aren’t here on time, an entire scene falls apart. You learn that very quickly.”
