Challenging traditional architecture with interactive design
Sense is an interactive spatial design that pushes the boundaries of traditional architecture. Using sensors and pulleys, Ricky created an installation that visitors could walk through during the finals exhibition. The space responded to their movement. Ricky's design explores the concept of sensitive architecture - a form of architecture that is as responsive and dynamic as the people who interact with it.
A space that responds to presence
"We live in a time when buildings are usually static," Ricky explains. "The houses and offices we live and work in stay the same, while we as people are always moving and adapting to our environment." With Sense, Ricky aims to bridge these two extremes by imagining a space that reacts to presence and movement. In Ricky’s vision, the tiles of a plaza could respond as you walk on them, streetlights could adjust their brightness as you pass by, and walls might move when you get close.
Merging architecture and technology
With Sense, Ricky wants to create a manifesto for a new way of designing, where architecture and technology work together to create truly interactive buildings. As she puts it, "I believe that merging architecture and technology can make more room for humanity in the future."
