Dare to show vulnerability in your work!
"I’m always an open book. So, my work is always a little about myself. It’s not 100% a representation of who I am or what I feel, but I always try to take a personal feeling and use that in my work,” Lisa explains.
Focus on insecurity
She says that that’s her strength: daring to share her vulnerabilities with the world. For her finals, Lisa researched the insecurities that are associated with body image. “Insecurity is a theme that doesn’t get talked about enough. I hope that I can shift the attention towards it with my film. To show that this insecurity exists. And that it’s okay that it exists.”
Work together
During the course, Lisa learned that you have to collaborate a lot. It’s almost impossible to do it all yourself. She explains: “I don’t do it all myself. Everything that gets created, originates from me. It’s entirely my own creative vision. But it’s just so nice to share your creative vision with others and that they help you to bring your story to life. That’s something I truly find beautiful about the discipline animation. That you collaborate a lot with others.” ArtEZ taught her to have more appreciation for not only her own discipline, but also other disciplines within art.
A story that moves you
During the four-year higher professional course in Animation Design at ArtEZ in Zwolle you are trained to become an animator in the animation, media, or game industry. You learn to use “lifeless” objects and figures to create an emotional story. You learn to use different animation and film techniques, analogue and digital. You convert ideas into stories, which makes you both an author as well as a professional creator. After you graduate, you can work as an independent animator or for an agency.
