SPOTTED: graduates from AKI ArtEZ introduce themselves

Three finals students from AKI ArtEZ in Enschede talk about their work, their dreams and life after the academy in an extensive interview with the AD. "Art is a big adventure."

Rein Rodemeier

Rein Rodemeier fell for the international aspect and the relatively large number of foreign students at AKI in Enschede. "I like that, since I have travelled a lot. People from other countries make you broaden your own horizons." Drawing and painting is what he wants to continue with. After countless drawings on paper, he has ventured into two large canvases for the first time before his exam. Rein is graduating from the Fine Art course, in Painting.

Alma van Maasakker

Alma also graduated from the Fine Art bachelor's course, choosing Sculpture. She came to Enschede four years ago. On her first visit to the academy, she hit it off right away. "Here the workshops are central. Everything is built around the craft. And the atmosphere in Twente is pleasant. My parents confirm that every time they are here: 'How nice the people are here'."

Nadeche van Altena

Coming up with ideas and then shaping them is what Nadeche sees as her calling. "Which medium I choose doesn't really matter. The beauty of the training here is that you get the opportunities to try out as many things as possible." For her exam, she chose video. A seven-minute film runs in a dark room in which she subtly tries to influence the viewer's thoughts.
