Biggest Beginnings. Kobus “the Big Cho” Assinck is a bassist, cellist and composer who has immersed himself in many different styles and played with all kinds of bands and ensembles in recent years. Now it's time to hit the road and find his own path.
Biggest Beginnings may be the concluding concert of his Academy of Music days, but more than that it is the beginning of a new phase. For the first time in the spotlight with a program consisting of entirely his own compositions, this evening Kobus shows who he is as a musician.
The show is about perseverance. About following one's own plan and making the best of it, even if things are not always easy. About experimenting and discovering how much is possible.
In changing line-ups, Kobus allows his musical diversity to surface: "Inspiration comes from the many directions I was able to explore at and outside the Academy. Some ideas come from modern classical music, other pieces are inspired by progressive rock albums. And a lot of jazz and pop music went through my head before I arrived at this experimental work of my own.'
Many of the pieces were written especially for this evening, which will be framed by the bands Pictor and Tayena's own work. You don't want to miss this.
