We care for each other

Social safety at ArtEZ

We believe that everyone in the ArtEZ community deserves inclusive, safe spaces to learn and work. Our increasingly polarised world is threatening values of diversity and inclusion. In the face of institutionalised discrimination, social inequality, prejudice and marginalisation, it’s never been more important to anchor diversity and inclusion in our organisation. That’s why we listen to all voices in our community, no matter how loud or quiet they are. Instead of focusing on what we’re against, we’re clear about the things we stand for, involving our lecturers, students and staff in the conversation.

It’s never been more important to respect our differences – celebrating them is what keeps our community inclusive. But inclusion is more than cultural heritage or background. It’s about the invisible factors at play: the different opinions and beliefs we hold as well as our individual traumas and mental health. We want to provide a safe learning and working environment in all senses by actively promoting diversity and inclusion. That’s why we’ve established a Social Safety Code [link opnemen] for art education.

What we stand for:

  • We always keep communication open.
  • We welcome differing perspectives, voices and opinions.
  • We show respect for everyone’s background, views, opinions and needs.
  • We stand in solidarity and care for one another.
  • We don’t shy away from hard conversations and we look for common ground.

Who can you turn to if you need help?

Whether you have something on your mind or want to talk about your programme, academic progress or a personal issue, our student counsellors are here for you. They can give you practical information, advice or support. The things you discuss with the counsellor will always be treated confidentially.

If you’re a student or staff member at the receiving end of bullying, discriminatory comments, sexual or other harassment or other unwanted behaviour, you can reach out to an external confidential counsellor. External confidential counsellors aren’t employed by ArtEZ. As such, they provide independent support for ArtEZ students, staff and alumni. External confidential counsellors
